August 2018

Ten year anniversary of Minutes on the web site!

The August meeting was called to order at 1908 Hrs. by Club President Jim Zocchi. Fourteen people were in attendance.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by a welcome to all attending members and guests.

Jim thanked George Spargen for providing the MREs for the pre-meeting dinner. It took a while for those not used to preparing the hot meals to figure out the heating technique.

A debriefing of this summer’s events followed. Many of the events were well attended by Club members and their vehicles.

There was concern about perhaps not participating in parades or shows where there was not enough Club participation. There was also concern about how to identify vehicles in both parades and in shows (continued from the previous meeting). Harley Jacobs will look into the production and cost of the following: -Small signs with the UMVC logo on them that could be displayed on the MV’s dash or behind windshields; -Vehicle data signs that would include spaces for MV owners to add information about their vehicle.

The signs would be placed in front of the vehicle at shows;

-Small magnetic vinyl type signs with the Club’s logo and identification that could be attached to the side of a vehicle;

-And license plate holders that would also include the Club’s logo and the words “Utah Military Vehicle Club. ”

The holders could be mounted on the front or rear of the vehicle along with the MV’s official license plate.

Harley will report on his progress at the September meeting.

Discussion continued regarding the dates for the following Club events: Annual October Steak Barbeque and Swap Meet: The BBQ will be held on the 20 October from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Fort Douglas Museum.

There will be a U of U football game on the same day however parking for the BBQ event will be available in the Museum’s back lot.

Paid-up members will receive a free steak. Guests are invited but will need to pay approximately $12.00 for their steak (the cost to be determined). Jim Zocchi will coordinate the purchase of the steaks. Please RSVP to George Spargen at 801-556-3298 or gofer06@hotmail.com. Everyone will need to bring a side dish. Signup for the event will be held at the September Club meeting.

Club Christmas Party: The date for the annual Christmas Party was set for Saturday, 1 December and will be held at the Gray Cliff Lodge in Ogden Canyon. Lucy and Clyde Hinderliter will coordinate the event with the Gray Cliff Lodge. Please RSVP to Pete Park at 435-640-0186 or parkpc@msn.com. There will be a signup sheet passed out at the September Club meeting and at the October BBQ.

Museum report: Beau Burgess reported that he is now both the Director and Curator of the Fort Douglas Museum.

Areas at the facility are being cleaned up and organized. He discussed upcoming events including the WW1 commemoration ceremony to be held on 8 November, 11:00 AM in the State Capitol Rotunda. The Governor will speak. Anyone with WW1 vehicles should contact Beau (801-581-1251) for information on how to participate in the event. At the meeting a number of WW1 framed posters were on display around the room. These are part of a collection (56+ in all) that will be transported from the Museum to the Capitol for display at the ceremony.

Other events included the Fort Douglas Founders Day celebration to be held at the Museum on 26 October from 12:00 to 5:00 PM and then from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on 27 October there will be a tour of the Fort Douglas Cemetery. More information is available by calling the Museum at 801-581-1251. Beau also commented that Karl Smith may have a tour of his remaining collection of WW2 MVs in the spring.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:31 PM.
