November 2018

The annual Club barbeque and swap meet was held on Saturday 20 October with a good representation of members and guests attending. As in the past, I enjoyed grilling the steaks and talking with everyone. Many thanks go out to all those who made this event a success including Ed Schoenfeld for bring the Club’s two propane tank grill to the event and to Layne Schoenfeld for storing it throughout the year. Thanks also to all who brought items for the swap meet and for the great side dishes that were enjoyed by all. Thanks to the Fort Douglas Museum for the use of their facility and to Pete Park for badgering the members and friends into attending. We had a great time.

Regarding Veterans Day Parades, If you participated in any please forward photos and comments to Pete Park ( and he will include in the next newsletter.

The next scheduled Club event will be the annual Christmas Party to be held on 1 December, 6:30 PM at the Gray Cliff Lodge located about five miles up Ogden Canyon, UT. The Gray Cliff was built in 1912 as a family summer home. By 1945 the house became a full time restaurant and in 1965 the restaurant and business were purchased by Neil and Lois Sprigs. In 1979 the Sprigs sold the property to their son Steven and his wife Jody who are the current owners. When entering the restaurant you get the feeling of walking into someone’s living room. Side rooms where dining tables are set also lend themselves to the at-home atmosphere. The food and service are great. Thanks to Clyde and Lucy Hinderliter for their work in securing the location and coordinating the event with the Sprigs. For those who will be attending, please RSVP to Pete Park. One thing that will be different at this year’s party is that everyone is asked to bring a small gift to exchange with others in attendance. As in the past, it will be a fun time.
