THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Welcome to the February 2014 UMVC Newsletter. First of all I do want to thank all of my officers in making my job easier. Pete’s kind reminders that I need to do this, really helps along with his interviewing members for the “Member Spotlight” column which newsletter has added a new perspective. The March meeting is going to be an important one as you vote on who you want to run the club for the next year or so. I encourage all of you to consider running for office, including mine. This is an all-volunteer club and by being an officer, it gives you a new perspective and insight into our great organization plus adding new ideas. So do not be shy and step up when we are asking for candidates. This year, we are doubling the amount of salary we are giving our officers and so do not miss out on this huge bonus. Well do not forget to come up with ideas on future meeting presentations. Our next meeting will be on February 27th, 2014. I think we are going to have another excellent presentation on guns. Start thinking of things you would like the club to do in 2014. Thanks for all that you do!

Meeting minutes:

The January meeting was called to order shortly after 7PM on the 30th at the Ft Douglas Museum building by club President Greg Brubaker. A total of twenty three people attended with three guests present, Mr. Vern Stout, his son Wade, and Zane Larsen. They were welcomed to our meeting and each introduced themselves to the membership.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, followed by a request for each member to update their personal information on the roster. It was reported that all members with health issues are doing well.

George S followed with the financial report. He also requested volunteers to attend the South Town Mall gun show to keep a watchful eye on vehicles that will be exhibited. A vote for the approval of the last meeting’s minutes was delayed.

Quartermaster, Layne S reported on his findings regarding the purchase of club shirts and other items with the club logo either embroidered or silk screened on them. Wasatch Embroidery was chosen by the membership to do the work. Layne will report again at the next meeting.

Three past events were discussed, Oct 12th 2013 BBQ and swap meet held at Ft Douglas, the Nov 9th 2013 Veteran’s Day parade in Ogden, and finally the Dec 7th 2013 Christmas party. Future events were discussed and will be included in the February newsletter.

The following additional business was discussed:

1. If possible, please help other club members with transportation to and from meetings.

2. Status of Ft Douglas Museum remodel efforts, new exhibits and meeting space was reported by Bob V, Museum Director.

3. Volunteers were sought to give opposing views as to the UMVC joining the MVPA.

4. Volunteers or suggestions were sought for future meeting topics.

5. The election of new club officers will be held at the March meeting. New officers will take over at the April meeting.

6. The members present voted to purchase club patches following the report that was given by Quartermaster, Layne S.

7. May 10-17 campout was discussed. Location to be determined.

8. The evening presentation was provided by club member Ed S with the topic being shotguns used in both WW1 and WW2. Ed presented several examples for members to inspect. He also volunteered to do a presentation on Carbines at the February club meeting. His program was thoroughly enjoyed by all attending. Thanks Ed….
