June 2014

May 29th, 2014 Meeting minutes:

The May 2014 meeting was brought to order at 7:05pm by club President Jim Zocchi. Twenty five people were present. The agenda was provided once again by Pete and we started off with the pledge of allegiance.

Last month’s minutes were read and approved.

When the subject of wellness of the members was brought up, Bob Boettcher reported that his son David has lost a leg due to diabetes. Please remember him in your thoughts.

George reported that there was money in the bank , but the amount was not available.

Lane reported that patches are now available for purchase. Order forms for T shirts will be available soon.

Jim reported on the Lodi, CA meet. The weather was good, lots of venders, fun was had by all! The upcoming Fruitland, ID event was discussed.

Jim Peterson from the Wendover Museum will be giving a presentation on the history of the Wendover Air Base at the July meeting.

Another reminder that the Logan Scout-a-Rama is coming up.

Joining the national MVPA was the main subject of the meeting. There were 22 paid-up members present who could officially vote on the subject. Ballots had been made by Pete and were handed out to qualified club members by the curator of the Fort Douglas Museum, Beau Burgess. The votes were counted by Beau and the results were tallied. Twenty people voted with 16 votes for joining the MVPA and four votes against. The club will join the MVPA for a trial period of one year.

Officers that are not presently members of the MVPA will need to join as soon as possible. President Jim Zocchi will get club information together, fill out the MVPA application, and coordinate all the necessary docs with the MVPA.

Thanks to the efforts of Bob Voyles and Beau Burgess from the Fort Douglas Museum there is the possibility that Club members will be able to tour the National Guard maintenance facility in Draper in August or September. Pete will coordinate the outing with Beau and the Guard and will have further details at the next meeting.

Additionally, for the July meeting, Jim Petersen, the Wendover Airfield director, will do an updated power point presentation on the history of the Airfield. He will also discuss the upcoming September 5th and 6th airshow to be held at the facility. Another meeting not to be missed.

The program for the night was provided by Bruce Morgan. He brought in books, photos, and lithos found in his mother’s estate. He spoke about his father’s war experiences as a pilot of P-38 fighters during WW2. Thank you Bruce for sharing the information!

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 7:00 pm. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.

Enjoy the month of June!
