June 2015

What a beautiful, warm evening we had for the June meeting.

President Jim Zocchi called the meeting to order a few minutes after seven.

Besides the fourteen regular members, two visitors were present, Mr. Evan Barber, and Mr. Matt Throckmorton.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and minutes of the last meeting approved.

George S was in Topeka, Kansas for the MVPA convention, therefore the treasurer’s report was omitted.

Our quartermaster was not present, but shirt with logos can now be ordered, or you can provide your own for printing.

Due to temperatures, the camp out did not materialize but members did show up with vehicles at the Heber City airport in conjunction with the CAF’s B-17 being there.

Several members slept in trailers and participated in daily activities with the CAF. The Friday night hangar dance was well attended and very successful.

Our own Pete and Bonnie Park came prepared in original WW2 uniforms from family members. Awards were given, but it is my understanding that they were not in the right place at the right time to enter as they would have surely won the best couple award had they been.

Ben Johnson and a team of reenactors were present many days during the event, they set up a camp near the B-17 and were very popular.

Bob Voyles reported on the Fort Douglas day activities, and the Fruitland, ID event was attended by four of our members.

Topics for presentations for upcoming months were discussed next and for July the subject will be adjusting the brake system on different Jeeps.

The August meeting will feature Mr. Frank Furr, and we will have an aircraft identification game using models from the Ft. Douglas museum. The September presentation will be by Mr. Robert Pastor on his visit to Germany where he visited WW2 landing beaches and a death camp. Anyone with ideas for future subjects please contact staff members to have it scheduled.

Mr. Matt Throchmorton from the Utah Military Academy addressed the members asking for vehicles to use in parades. One is the Days of 47 parade and the other in Ogden on the same day. He is the Executive Director of a charter high school in Riverdale, Utah with emphasis on military ideals. He can be contacted at: 615-339-3349, or
