September 2016

Well folks, Fall is finally here. The September meeting was held outside the Ft Douglas Museum once again in their the East Side “Cannon Park” area. The temperature was nice, but a light jacket was good to have at the end of the meeting. We had eleven members present with two visitors, one to become a member. Thanks to Pete Park and Ed Smith for bringing portable lighting as it is getting dark much earlier now.

The president started the meeting at 7:10 with the Pledge of Allegiance. It was suggested that we do the program first before it got dark. Pete was going to assist in rope knotting with everyone, but no one brought rope to use so the instruction has been postponed to a later meeting.

Spargen gave a treasurer’s report and then informed everyone that the Tower Park KOA in California has been sold and military vehicle participation there is no longer wanted. Future meets will be held at Petaluma, CA KOA. Layne S reported on the PX inventory.

The main topic of discussion for the evening was the upcoming swap meet/BBQ on the 15th October. Be sure to notify Pete if you will be attending, the number of people in your party and what your bringing as a side dish . Swap meet is 10 AM to noon, followed by the lunch. If anyone knows of Veterans Day activities, please notify Pete. Magna will be holding their Vetrean’s Day parade on the 11th November at 11 AM, this is in place of the one that has been in Taylorsville the last six years. Sign up before the 28th October online at www.magnautah.org. For more information call Todd at 801-599-7361.

The Christmas party has been scheduled for Saturday, December 10th and will again be held at the Gray Cliff Lodge located up Ogden Canyon (same place as last year). Pete Park will contact Clyde H to reserve the facility.

Our guest speaker was Mr. Ralph Young representing Hill AFB Museum. It was voted on and approved that we will have an event associated with their museum next summer.

The next meeting will be held on the 15th of October for the swap meet/BBQ at the Fort Douglas Museum.
