September 2017

The September meeting was called to order by President Jim Zocchi at 7:07 PM on the 28th in the meeting room at Fort Douglas. There were fifteen people attending including the new Director of the Fort Douglas Museum, Mr. Tim Morris. Following Club Presidents welcome and Pledge Of Allegiance. Mr. Morris introduced himself and was warmly greeted by all the membership. He comes from the very well known Evergreen Air Museum in Oregon.

Health of members was discussed next with special attention given to the passing of Mr. Bill Abbott. Bill was a very active member that contributed his knowledge freely. His specialty with radios was well know and the information he possessed will be sorely missed.

George Spargen presented the Treasurer’s report followed by Jimmy Zocchi standing in with a Quartermaster’s report for Layne Schoenfeld who was unable to make the meeting.

The calendar of events was reviewed with the emphasis being placed on the upcoming Club BBQ and swap meet to be held on Saturday, October 14th. All members should sign up through Jim Zocchi, 801-941-1451. Guests are very welcome to attend and need to be included in an RSVP to Jimmy before the event so food (steaks) can be requested for all.

The Christmas dinner will again be held at the Gray Cliff Lodge in Ogden Canyon on Saturday, December 9th. The cost is $28.00 a person.

The Ft. Douglas Museum is having a cemetery tour on October 28th from Noon to 4 PM. POC is the Museum and those who would like to volunteer as a re-enactor please sign up by calling the Museum at 801-581-1251. The tour is free and very informative. Re-enactors will give talks on the people buried at the cemetery.

George Spargen reported that he is participating in the MVPA Route 66 Convoy on a leg of the tour from Santa Fe, NM to Barstow, CA. He will be involved from October 1 through 10 and is looking for a driver to help him out.

There will be a Veteran’s Day Parade in Layton this year as well as one in Magna. See the newsletter for specifics.

The next meeting will be held October 14, 2017 at the Club BBQ and swap meet. There will not be a meeting in November. The December meeting will be the Christmas Dinner on the 9th.

No presentation was given at this meeting, we are always looking for people to volunteer to share information on subjects they have expertise on. Don’t be shy!

Meeting adjourned at 8 PM.
