1944 GPW
Owner: Ron Powell
This Ford GPW G503 was made January of 1944. It has an earlier GPW engine and original drivetrain. It has an ACM1 tub and original tow bar. It received a frame off "motorpool" restoration by Ron Powell which took about 20 months to complete. A M31C pedestal mount with replica M1919 machine gun was added. The jeep was purchased from a club member with dozens of parts for about $4000. Every component except the axles were rebuilt. Total cost for this restoration was about $13,000. Inspiration for this project was Ron's friendship with the late Major Glenn Marston. Glenn served in the 11th Airborne Division, 187 Para Glider Battalion, Pacific Theater during WW2. Glenn was an infantry Soldier but served as a stretcher bearer. The jeep now bears his unit's bumper numbers. The jeep's true history is unknown. It currently appears exactly as it would have in the Pacific Theater in 1944-45.
